Yoga is currently invading the Occident. Courses are available everywhere, styles multiply and there are even online teachers. For those who do not adhere to it, it looks like effective marketing, at the limit of being a sect! In fact, I started a few years ago. I found a style and especially a teacher that suited me, not too intense, or too 'zen '. I discovered an extraordinary means to work the body gently and to allow it to retain its flexibility which, as you know, tends to disappear with the passing years. I also learned to stop, to take the time to be. These moments are precious to me and I find it important to put them on paper, to offer you my vision of life as I see it.
This watercolour is therefore the representation of yoga in America. We notice fancy sports clothing and a practitioner with makeup and manicure. The text on the painting is what attracts followers in the beginning. Yet, I have tried to include in this watercolour a softness and a recollection that express what settles inside the body and the mind over time and practice.
I worked here without masking fluid on the paper. I added the paint wet on wet at first with the use of four colours (2 other colours have been added at the end). The rest of the watercolour is made with a dry rigid brush, in negative, which allows "brush" painting on paper. The result is an uneven spread of watercolour and you get a velvety softness which, in my opinion, serves the subject well.
Maybe you will recognize yourself in this colourful watercolour. Perhaps you will simply see yoga as an alternative in the world of sport. No matter, because for my part, the time taken to work in negative with my painting has allowed me to simply be there, in another way…
